My parents thoughts on Finland
My mother wrote an email earlier about their trip here, I thought it would be interesting to share her thoughts...
"We had a great time in Finland, and now we know why you love it so much! I enjoyed the food, being able to walk everywhere and taking pictures of the country!
...I am glad to be back home to our wonderful bed, my washing machine, and shower though! How does anyone with a large family ever get their laundry done? Especially during the winter time! It's nice not having to squeegee the floor after every shower.
I was sharing with Maria [My mother-in-law] that countries should get together and share all their best stuff that makes more sense. Like our showers with the stalls make more sense, and windows like Maria's blinds between the 2 panes is smarter..."
My mom and dad were so much fun while here!
But let me clarify some things...
We had my mom sleep on the guest bed and my dad sleep on the floor.
It is true, our wash machines are slower by one hour or more (but our clothes are clean aren't they!) In fact, I will ask my neighbor who is soon to have five children how she gets laundry done, hold please...
She wasn't available, but Mikko was telling me today that everyday is laundry day now for us, an I surely believe it!
I actually think our showers are cooler because I don't have to clean a shower door, I just wash my curtain! There are showers here with stalls but it's not the norm. True, water gets everywhere without stalls and it's my pet-peeve when I walk in with socks and find the floor wet! MIIIIKKKKOOO!
MY KITCHEN: Some other things she told me while here was that I have a mini-bake oven! I must have gotten so used to being Finnish-in a sense that my oven that slightly tilts forward (make eggs and pancake batter slide down the pan) is quite normal. I totally forgot that I grew-up with a large gas range oven! Then again, before I married and afterwards I have used a small stove at a university campus and seminary, so this is normal! My kitchen is even a "Mini-Bake" Kitchen.
SAUNA: My mother did not even shower before entering the sauna the first time and immediately left saying, "That was the biggest hot-flash ever!" Too funny...
I am so glad you had fun! Come again, and you can sleep on our bed next time (If I'm not pregnant, that is).
