Week Update...
A Weekend of Rest
Last week we ventured for a small stay at a relative's place. It was really nice to get away and go skiing. Although the track was nearly gone, I managed. I have probably skied twice before that in my life. Thank goodness for tracks, they are my "training wheels" so-to-speak! I look like a ding-dong. Near our neighborhood we have been trying to frequent the course. I am pretty slow compared to some of these middle-aged men who come roaring around me (a few women mind you have patiently swerved around me too).On Saturday we all dressed-up and attended a wedding near Jyväskylä. Our friends, Pekka and Emily married! I was quite encouraged by their love story: God's Faithfulness. Who would have thought a beautiful godly woman from the mountains of Canada would find a fine believing fisherman living in the North/East Finland! We are so grateful to be apart of their lives! Come to think of it, rather stranger that I, a So-Calian would marry a Finlander...and WANT to live in Finland! LOL
A Winter Full of Surprises
I am encouraged by several things. After being reminded of Philippians 4:8 and checking in with the "whatever"s. I find myself , instead of clinging to fear, clinging to hope and that which is true. That which is worthy of praise!
So where to start...
I am thankful the church plant is wanting to support ItuProjekti. A support group for women uncertain of continuing the pregnancies to continue them and those who have suffered past abortions. After attending a training to introduce myself, I could see how grace-filled and supportive the ladies were.
I am also encouraged about the women whom the Lord has giving me to mentor, whether informal or formally it has been a real privilege and honor to see them grow, be convicted of sin and turn from destructive behaviors. It is obvious that it is the Lord's work and nothing I could have convinced them of. What a blessing!
A few families have decided to attend the church plant and that means more in Sunday School and organizing a baby room. It does take a little extra work on my part but I am grateful for the Finnish I am learning during the week for preparation.
A woman I have gotten to know has been super helpful and such a blessings in my life. She is a believer and I continually tell her how grateful I am to know her. Her desire to serve without whining or hesitation has been a super example for me.
I could go on and on, but more updates for later....
P.S. Be on the look out for someone's Batman party! woohoo
